Today’s meeting of the F1 Commission defined the weekends that will adopt the format in 2022 with the inclusion of a sprint race on Saturday.
Imola, the Red Bull Ring and the confirmed Interlagos will plan two races in their weekends, with the first one that instead of rewarding only the first three drivers will award points to eight riders in descending order from first to eighth at the finish. This is the only real and sensitive innovation introduced to entice the drivers to duel not only simply for placing on the starting grid of the Grand Prix. While it is true that the pole position for statistical purposes will be assigned in Early Qualifying on Friday, the fact remains that the order of arrival of the Sprint Race on Saturday will determine the starting grid for the Grand Prix scheduled for Sunday.

So, summarizing what are the differences between the 2021 Sprint Qualifications and the 2022 Qualifications they are two: for statistical purposes, the pole position will be assigned to the fastest driver on the flying lap on Friday and eight drivers will win points in the sprint race on Saturday and not just three.
