Shortly after it became known that he will be a father for the first time, Rafael Nadal announced that he could be present at the next Wimbledon tournament that will start at the end of June. The announcement, that he must wait for the evolution of his treatment on his left foot, generated joy among his supporters.
The possibility of seeing Rafael Nadal off the court, a situation that was experienced day by day in the past Roland Garros, is moving away. After medical treatment, the Spaniard seems to have regained his confidence and could be present at the third Grand Slam of the year.
“My intention is to play Wimbledon, as I said after Paris, if there is any chance. Having trained for a week here (Santa Ponsa, Spain), I feel there could be a chance of that. So my intention is to fly to London next Monday, if I fly to London it is because my intention is to play,” Nadal told Spanish media on June 17.
It is worth remembering that the 36-year-old tennis player suffers from Mueller-Weiss syndrome that causes chronic foot pain. During the last edition of Roland Garros, the player received frequent injection treatments to calm the discomfort.
At the end of the tournament, the player underwent pulsed radiofrequency treatment on his left foot in the city of Barcelona.
“The treatment in Barcelona, I went twice, it does not have an immediate effect, but I do feel changes. To be honest, I also feel strange sensations. To a certain extent, the pain in my joints that did not allow me to support my foot has diminished. Due to the nerve treatment I feel strange things, sometimes part of my foot goes numb”, explained the player.
Nadal acknowledges that playing on grass, where he has time without participating in an official matchup, could be tough. However, many tennis fans have turned their attention to the player after winning in Australia and Roland Garros with the possibility of him triumphing in the two major tournaments that remain in the year, something not seen among men since Rod Laver more than 40 years old.
