In February, two men died when a driver raced through an intersection in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen at significantly excessive speed. Now the driver, who has been in a psychiatric ward since then, is on trial.
D.he accident caused a lot of dismay: Two men, 31 and 40 years old, died in February in the Sachsenhausen district of Frankfurt when a driver drove over an intersection at a red light at significantly excessive speed. In the opposite lane, past the cars waiting there, the driver had sped his car, a Peugeot 208, across the intersection of Mörfelder Landstrasse / Oppenheimer Landstrasse. The men who worked as employees in the popular “Maincafé” on the Sachsenhausen Mainufer were about to cross the street on foot when they were hit by the vehicle.
Other passers-by – a woman pushing a stroller and another man – were narrowly missed by the Peugeot, and the accident could have been fatal for them too. Shortly afterwards, the then 38-year-old driver rammed his car into several vehicles before he finally collided head-on with a Smart and his car overturned. The driver fled from the scene of the accident, but was stopped by passers-by and handed over to the police. The man is said to have been traveling at more than 100 kilometers per hour.
