After the resignation of the ex-SPD general secretary, the SPD recorded an upswing in the polls. Is Miersch’s successor the bearer of hope?
Berlin – After the resignation of the former SPD general secretary, the SPD was again able to record an upswing in polls for the federal election. In a current Sunday question from the Insa Institute for the Picture The SPD was able to improve by one percentage point compared to the previous week’s level.
According to the survey, this would give the SPD 16 percent if there were a federal election this Sunday. The resignation of Kevin Kühnert as SPD general secretary, which was only announced on October 6th, is only reflected in the survey to a small extent.
The effects of Kühnert’s resignation are still pending – the SPD is achieving temporary growth
The actual effects of the change in the Social Democratic party leadership will only become apparent in the next few weeks. The question therefore remains whether the SPD’s increase in this survey is the usual fluctuations or whether the successor Matthias Miersch is not a bit of a beacon of hope and a larger increase is possible.
So far, the assessment of his chances of success in bringing the SPD back to its former strength has been cautiously skeptical. After all, it is a mammoth task for the party, which has fallen by around ten percentage points in the polls within one legislative period. In the 2021 federal election, the SPD was the strongest force with 25.7 percent.
CDU/CSU | 31.5 |
AfD | 20 |
SPD | 16 |
Greens | 10.5 |
BSW | 8 |
FDP | 4 |
left | 2.5 |
Other | 7.5 |
Traffic light government appears to have no chance in the survey – the SPD would have to enter into a pact with the Union again
In addition to the SPD, the SPD also improved AfD by one percentage point compared to the previous week and was therefore 20 percent. The BSW After the success in the East, it fell by a full 1.5 percentage points since last week and thus fell to eight percent. It is a low point for a party that had previously been going almost exclusively uphill for months.
The Greens are currently at 10.5 percent (-0.5 percentage points). The CDU/CSU (31.5 percent), FDP (four percent) and the Left (2.5 percent) maintained their previous values. The value for the other parties was again 7.5 percent. If the SPD wants to govern again, the traffic lights are not an option according to current surveys. The party would rather have to go back to a red-black government, from which it actually wanted to emancipate itself. Given the CDU/CSU’s continued high polls, the SPD would again lose out in such a government. (lismah)
Note: The online survey took place from October 4th to October 7th with 2,010 people eligible to vote.
