The SPD can improve slightly in a new federal survey. But the strongest force clearly remains the Union.
Berlin – Slight upswing for the SPD: After its success in the state elections in Brandenburg, the SPD is also gaining some support in the federal government. In a survey published on October 10th by the polling institute Ipsos, the Social Democrats got 15 percent. This is an increase of two percentage points compared to the previous month.
Survey on the federal election: SPD is catching up, Union stronger than traffic light parties
With a combined vote of 31 percent, the CDU and CSU clearly remain the strongest force in the federal government. However, they lost one percentage point compared to the last Ipsos election survey in September 2024. Nevertheless, the Union is still stronger than all parties in the traffic light coalition combined. The Greens are still at eleven percent, while the FDP (four percent) would miss out on entering the Bundestag.
The AfD is stagnating at 18 percent BSW loses one percentage point and comes to eight percent. All other parties remain below the five percent threshold. The Free Voters made slight gains and, with three percent of the vote, are now level with the Left Party. The other parties accounted for seven percent of the vote.

SPD continues to rise in surveys – Union remains on top
Other surveys have recently come to similar results. According to the current Sunday question from YouGov from October 10th, the SPD got 16 percent – this is also an increase of two points compared to the previous month. And in the broadcaster’s “trend barometer”. RTL and ntv (October 8th) the SPD is at 17 percent.
A good year before the federal election, the SPD seems to be recovering again. The only question is whether the Social Democrats still have so much time until the election. Speculation about a premature break in the traffic light has recently become increasingly louder. In any case, the Union is currently preparing for early elections in March. (cs)
Note: The Ipsos Institute surveyed a total of 1,000 people online from October 2nd to 4th.
