Just days before the all-deciding Champions League smasher in Munich against Bayern, dark clouds are gathering over the Camp Nou. In the third game led by Xavi, Real Betis proved too strong. “Xavi’s Barcelona advance in La Liga was brutally stopped by Betis,” he said. Mundo Deportivo on. ,,After a good start, Barça, as usual, lacked continuity in recent months, after which the ambitious Betis came alongside. The visitors from Seville let FC Barcelona rage and struck smartly in the final phase.”
The only goal arose from a corner (!) from Barcelona, fell marca on. ,,Speaking of alert defending… FC Barcelona got a corner, but in no time the ball was in the net on the other side via a sharp counter from Betis over the left flank.”

Madrid sports newspaper punctually an analysis still the lousy performance of Memphis Depay. “His game is starting to get really worrying. Yesterday he did nothing for 90 minutes. Patience at Camp Nou is running out. Memphis started the season well, but his performance has been disappointing for a while now.”
“Depay played one of his worst games to date in the Barcelona shirt,” he wrote Mundo Deportivo. He suffers visibly when he has to play with his back to goal.” Diario Sport gave Memphis a 4. ,,He did not follow up on his performance against Villarreal. He didn’t appear in the play against Betis.”
After the defeat to Barcelona, and the win to Real Madrid later in the evening, the difference between the two giants already rose to sixteen (!) points in La Liga. Real is the leader, Barca seventh. It is true that Xavi and co still have to make up for a duel, but the title chances are now gone.
“These are figures that belong to the disastrous 2002-2003 season under Louis van Gaal,” writes Mundo Deportivo in an analysis. “They haven’t shown such disastrous results since then. If Rayo Vallecano beats Espanyol today, Barcelona will have to bridge a gap to even make it to European football.”
ASH saw ‘Betis trampled Xavi’s flower’ and radio station RAC was talking about a debacle. ,,FC Barcelona is crumbling. These are disastrous signals en route to Wednesday’s crucial game in Munich. The absentees were more surprising than the players who did play. Frenkie de Jong started on the bench and was not even brought in when Gavi was substituted after 34 minutes. It turned out afterwards that he was overtired and Xavi chose Riqui Puig as a replacement with a view to Bayern. Result: a defeat and a definitively lost season. Because without Fati and a somewhat shaken De Jong, it will of course be a more than difficult job in Munich on Wednesday.”
According to marca exposed Betis Barcelona. ‘Panic for Munich’, the newspaper headlined. ,,Xavi thought to make some changes, but paid a high price for it. Betis quite simply exposed Barcelona’s shortcomings.” And: ,,Xavi tried it with the until yesterday forgotten Luuk de Jong, but it was not a solution.”
