Spain The ghost town emerged underwater 30 years later in Spain

Spanish and an exceptional visitor magnet has emerged on the Portuguese border: a ghost town that has been under water for three decades and has now reappeared.

The village of Aceredo in Galicia, northwestern Spain, was submerged in 1992 when the Limia River was dammed. Now the drought has almost emptied the dam basin, causing Aceredo to “rise” again.

Overview of the village of Aceredo in Galicia in northwestern Spain.

In the village is a ghostly atmosphere, according to Reuters, a news agency that visited Aceredo. The ruins of the stone houses protrude grayed out, as if 1992 had frozen in place.

It was a year when Finland was in the throes of a recession and Nirvana performed in Ruisrock. The Summer Olympics were held in Barcelona.

Water is still flowing from the rusty pipe of Aceredo’s old drinking place. The wall of the former bar has stacked beer baskets with empty bottles. On the other hand, the car rudder gradually rusts out.

Aceredo has become a popular tourist destination, but the reasons behind it are sad. Rainfall has been very low lately, so the dam basin is largely empty.

Area the Spanish authorities also accuse the Portuguese power company EDP of being too greedy for energy production in the face of the drought. The power company denies the charge.

“Just like watching a movie. I’m going to be sad, ”said a 65-year-old pensioner interviewed by Reuters Maximino Pérezwho is from the town of A Coruña.

“I feel like this is what will happen in the coming years due to drought and climate change.”

This is what it looks like in an apartment in Aceredo after three decades.
