The Ministry of Transport orders the “provisional retention” of the Valerie, a 140 million euro vessel belonging to a major Russian businessman close to Putin
The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced yesterday the seizure of a yacht owned by a Russian oligarch valued at around 140 million euros in the port of Barcelona. In an interview on La Sexta, Sánchez assured that the sanctions “on the Putin regime” and “the oligarchs” are having an effect. In that sense, he mentioned the “provisional immobilization” of this boat, 85 meters long, and assured that “more will come.”
However, the president warned that they are complex operations because these people have many interposed companies and “many screens” and therefore information needs to be shared between intelligence services inside and outside the European Union. “We have to act forcefully and hit Putin, his regime and his oligarchs harshly, who in this system of corruption have enriched themselves by oppressing the Russian people,” he added. The ship has the flag of the islands of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and is precisely in the name of a shell company.
According to ‘Infolibre’, the seized ship would belong to Sergey Chemezov, someone closely linked to the Russian president, an intimate of his since they coincided working for the KGB in the German Democratic Republic. The ship in question is the Valerie, and would be valued at an amount close to 140 million euros.
