The corona situation in Germany remains tense. Health Minister Spahn and RKI boss Wieler provide information about the status in a press conference.
Update from November 3, 12:19 p.m.: In some countries – for example in neighboring Austria – a quasi-lockdown is only being considered for unvaccinated people. A journalist at the PK would like to know what the other part of the population can expect from this autumn and winter. Spahn’s answer: “For vaccinated and convalescent people there will be no further contact restrictions or curfews, that is the current legal situation.”
Corona vaccination obligation? Spahn replies to PK with a scenario: “Then we have a problem”
Update from November 3, 12.12 p.m.: Spahn and Wieler have made their statements, now the inquiries of the media representatives follow. One is a possible vaccination requirement for nursing staff. In his answer, Spahn first refers to his experiences from traveling through Germany as a result of the election campaign: “There is already a lot of tension in the country on the subject,” he reports.
These tensions should not lead to divisions. He has already observed exactly this in regions with a low vaccination rate. But, and that is why he continues to exclude compulsory vaccination: “I am really concerned that these people will not be vaccinated, but will be gone. If 50 percent of the nursing staff say that, then we have a problem ”. Especially if a conversation is no longer possible afterwards, but rather “hardening” arises. “For me, the question of what triggers this – socially and for individuals – continues to weigh heavily,” emphasizes Spahn.
RKI boss Wieler on current corona numbers in Germany: “Terrifying”
Update from November 3, 11:52 a.m.: Wieler speaks of “frightening numbers”. AHA and 3G rules would not be adequately followed. “Unfortunately, more people who have been vaccinated will also be infected,” emphasizes the RKI boss – especially high-risk patients. The new corona wave could bring a lot of suffering. 16.2 million over the age of 12 are still unvaccinated. “Please get vaccinated now. The vaccines are effective and safe too, ”he appeals.
The recommended booster vaccination is recommended six months after the first full vaccination. With “Johnson & Johnson” vaccinees, Wieler advises a booster with an mRNA vaccine. In addition, vaccinated and convalescent people should also comply with the AHA rules, especially indoors and in public transport.
Wieler on PK on vaccination and corona rules: “Solidarity is the order of the day”
“3G” reduces the risk of infection “significantly”, according to Wieler, but even more with “2G”. To do this, however, compliance with the rule must be “documented and checked”, for example with the Corona app. “It is very important that the organizers check the authenticity of the certificates,” says Wieler emphatically.
Even vaccinated, convalescent and tested people should not feel safe from infection. “We all value our freedom, but please let us use that freedom responsibly. Solidarity remains the order of the day. All the cards are on the table, let’s play please. We all share responsibility. If we all get vaccinated and follow the rules, we can save many lives. “
Update from November 3, 11:39 a.m.: Spahn opens the PK with Wieler (see previous update) with a self-criticism: “The expiry of the epidemic situation as a legal condition has been misunderstood by many as the end of the pandemic.” Because: “The pandemic is not over,” emphasizes Spahn.
He explains the decision: “We are bringing the relationship between government and parliament back into a legal ‘normal mode’, but the fourth wave is there“ with full force ”. Spahn appeals to the personal responsibility of each individual – “Testing, vaccination, the AHA rules are important to make the decisive difference.”
Spahn at PK with Wieler: 3G rule should control authorities if necessary
The number of Covid intensive care patients has recently increased, especially in hotspots, where the vaccination rate is not that high. “I understand very well the frustration of the heavily stressed nursing staff, why more people are not getting vaccinated.” Spahn goes into the current Forsa survey, according to which vaccination skeptics are difficult to convince.
From his point of view, it is now important: consistently implement 3G and AHA rules “and, if necessary, add 2G”. For “3G” he wants to “strongly advertise” and for monitoring compliance – also by the authorities. “For a few days, possibly with fines.” Spahn believes: “Then I am sure that the signal will get through.” He cites Italy as a role model.
Regarding “2G” as a further level for hotspots, Spahn explains: “We asked for this back in August. I strongly advocate that this happen now. Incidentally, this has nothing to do with ‘vaccination bullying’, but – you can see it in Saxony and Thuringia – it is about avoiding overloading the health system. “
Update from November 3, 11:13 a.m.: From 11.30 a.m. this Wednesday, the Managing Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU) and RKI boss Lothar Wieler want to talk to media representatives in Berlin on the subject of corona booster vaccinations (see previous update) inform. At this point we will keep you up to date on the most important things from the press conference.
Update from November 3, 9:04 a.m.: The holiday season will probably also be under the influence of the corona pandemic in 2021. The situation in the intensive care units (for example in Bavaria) is tense this autumn (see first report).
“Even though many people have already been vaccinated, the hospitals can still become overloaded. The first intensive care units are already at their limit, ”said SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach Rheinische Post from Wednesday. “That doesn’t mean anything good for social gatherings in the run-up to Christmas.”
Corona: Lauterbach (SDP) for strict 2G rules during Advent
Therefore, in his opinion, restaurants, cinemas and other facilities should now enforce strict 2G regulations (access for vaccinated and convalescent people) and the federal states should quickly enable booster vaccinations for older people. “Only then would crowds of people at Christmas parties with many employees be justifiable,” said Lauterbach.
The booster vaccinations should be given to people over 70 first, as well as people with previous illnesses or employees from the health sector.
Germany: Corona numbers are falling again – but experts remain skeptical
First report from November 3rd: Berlin – The nationwide seven-day incidence of new Corona * infections in Germany decreased for the second day in a row. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported an incidence of 146.6 on Wednesday morning, November 3. The previous day the incidence was 153.7.
According to the latest information from the RKI, 20,398 new infections with the coronavirus and 194 other deaths related to the virus were recorded within 24 hours. This is around 2,800 cases lower than a week ago when 23,212 new cases were reported.
Corona in Germany: Incidence is falling again – concerns remain
The numbers also fell slightly in Bavaria, which was badly affected. On Wednesday only five counties were above the incidence value of 500, the previous day it had been seven. The front runners in Germany-wide comparison are still the districts of Miesbach (682.8) and Mühldorf am Inn (618.1) in Upper Bavaria. In Bavaria, the state government today wants to adopt tougher measures in the fight against the fourth corona wave.
Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is still in office, also wants tougher measures and a quick response from the country leaders. However, several prime ministers had already rejected another federal-state summit. In view of the sometimes tense regional situation in the intensive care units, Angela Merkel had called for stricter rules for unvaccinated people. She received encouragement from, among others, health expert Karl Lauterbach, who sees the “social gathering in the run-up to Christmas” endangered by the increasing numbers, as he sees in the Rheinische Post said. Therefore, the public areas should now be regulated more closely with the 2-G rule. kah * Merkur.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA
