of the United States On Monday, the space agency Nasa released the identities of the crew members for the lunar circumnavigation next year, reports news agency AFP.

Among the four astronauts is a female astronaut Christina Koch44.

“Am I excited about it? Absolutely,” Koch told a NASA press conference.

Koch is one of 12 women in NASA’s astronaut program, whose elite group consists of 40-53-year-olds. All of them are well educated, but from different backgrounds.

Koch is an electrical engineer by training.

NASA will take astronauts around the Moon with the Artemis 2 flight, which is scheduled to take place in November 2024. The astronauts will orbit the Moon in the Orion spacecraft, which will be carried into space by NASA’s SLS launch vehicle.

Lunar NASA is not yet taking astronauts to the surface. That, too, is planned: the US space administration has predicted that humans could return to the surface of the moon with the Artemis 3 flight, which is estimated to take place in November 2025.

Man has last walked on the moon shortly before Christmas 1972 with the Apollo 17 flight. The flight was the last of the Apollo lunar mission.

The purpose of the Artemis flights is to take astronauts to the Moon and eventually build a permanent base near the Moon’s south pole.

Four in addition to the three American astronauts, there is one Canadian astronaut among the astronauts. Canada has been involved in financing and building Artemis flights.

The three NASA astronauts assigned to Artemis 2 – Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch – have all spent time on the International Space Station (ISS), while the Canadian To Jeremy Hansen space flight is the first.

Glover, a 46-year-old naval aviator who works as a space flight pilot, is also making history. He is the first black member of the space station crew.
