The alleged incidents have caused great criticism of Musk in China. China’s foreign ministry on Tuesday called on the United States to behave more responsibly in space.
China’s Tiangong space station has had to dodge the billionaire Elon Muskin Starlink satellites, Chinese authorities say in a report to the UN space agency report.
According to the report, the occupied Chinese station had to make evasive movements to avoid a collision with Musk satellites in July and October. British Broadcasting Corporation’s BBC according to the independent cases have not yet been assessed by independent parties.
“The steering strategy was unknown and track failures were difficult to assess, so there was a risk of a collision,” the report described the October incident.
Starlink is a satellite Internet system operated by SpaceX, a space company owned by Musk. For example, SpaceX operates commercial space flights and handles cargo traffic to the International Space Station.
Report the risk of a collision has caused outrage on Chinese social media and led to demands to boycott Musk-owned Tesla electric cars.
“How ironic that the Chinese with the Tesla cars they buy are generating large sums of money so Musk can launch Starlink and then almost run into a Chinese space station,” commented a user at a Chinese blogging service in Weibo.
China’s foreign ministry said Tuesday that the United States has failed to meet its obligations under the outer space agreement and put astronauts at risk, according to Reuters. Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian urged the United States to act more responsibly at the press conference.
Also scientists have expressed concern about space security. Up to 30,000 satellites and various pieces of space debris orbit the Earth. Scientists have called for a better exchange of information from the international community about orbiting objects to avoid collisions.
Roju is followed, for example, by the US space surveillance network SSN. Last month, the U.S. space agency Nasa had to cancel a space walk due to floating debris. SpaceX alone has launched nearly 1,900 satellites.
