Around 48,100 voters in São Paulo canceled their votes by typing the number 13, referring to President Lula’s PT, for mayor in the municipal elections last Sunday, 6th. According to a survey carried out by the newspaper The Globebased on the Digital Voting Register of the ballot boxes provided by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), assuming that more than half of these votes with the PT number were registered with the intention of choosing Guilherme Boulos (PSOL), supported by the current president, the deputy federal would have enough points to surpass Ricardo Nunes (MDB) in the first round.
Nunes came first with 1,801,139 votes, equivalent to 29.48%, while Boulos was chosen by 1,776,127 voters. The difference between the two candidates was 25,012 points.
According to the newspaper, the total number of invalid votes with the number 13 was surpassed only by the digits “00”, registered by approximately 258 thousand voters.
During his campaign, Boulos sought to link his image to the Workers’ Party, in addition to highlighting President Lula’s declared support in his agendas. One day before the elections, the deputy was with the PT member and vice candidate Marta Suplicy (PT) at an agenda held on Av. Paulista.
However, the psolist also had to deal with statements made by former coach Pablo Marçal (PRTB), who sought to confuse voters about the candidate’s real number. “Regardless of whether you are going to vote for PT’s 13, do the following, type 28, take a deep breath and I know you will follow your heart”, said the influencer during the Record debate.
Another 18 thousand voters voted for the number “22”, from PL, a party of which former president Jair Bolsonaro is a member. Although Nunes received support from the Bolsonaro leader during the election, Marçal also sought votes from voters with the same ideological support as Bolsonaro. The PRTB candidate came in third place in the election with 1,719,274 points, equivalent to 28.14%.
