Businessman had been convicted of raping a service provider in his home; has been in prison since April 2023
The TJ-SP (São Paulo Court of Justice) acquitted businessman Thiago Brennand of a rape conviction on Thursday (October 10, 2024). He is imprisoned in the Tremembé penitentiary, in Vale do Paraíba (SP) and is serving a sentence for other crimes.
Brennand was sentenced, in January, to 8 years in prison and payment of compensation worth R$50,000 for raping a service provider in his home in 2022. The case is under secrecy, but the information was confirmed by the Power360.
When contacted, Brennand’s defense stated that the São Paulo Court “corrected a huge error“. According to lawyer Roberto Podval, there was no evidence or indications of criminal conduct in the case, only the words of the victim “that contradicts itself when heard”.
“If we are not careful, we will end up trivializing abominable sexual crimes”declared Podval. Read the full note at the end of the text.
THE Power360 also contacted the victim’s lawyers by phone. There was no response until the publication of this report. The text will be updated if a statement is sent to this digital newspaper.

Here is the full note from Thiago Brennand’s defense:
“The Court of Justice corrected a huge judicial error. You cannot condemn someone simply because you don’t like them or their story. In the case file there is no evidence or even evidence that points to any criminal conduct. All that appears is the victim’s words, which contradict themselves when heard. If we are not careful, we will end up trivializing abominable sexual crimes.”
