The City of São Paulo is awaiting confirmation from the Government of the State of São Paulo in the coming days of the first death from dengue this year in the city, at the Tide Setúbal Hospital, in the east zone. Another death was ruled out and there are still two more under investigation.
The information was given by the municipal secretary of Health, Luiz Carlos Zamarco, during an interview with Eldorado Radio this Tuesday, 6. According to him, the capital of São Paulo had 3,344 confirmed cases of dengue in January this year, with the highest number in the Itaquera region.
Zamarco also announced that, “in three or four weeks”, after a tender, the use of drones that will launch larvicides in places where municipal agents cannot access to combat the transmitting mosquito should begin. Another measure would be to send, later this Tuesday, a letter to the Ministry of Health asking for the inclusion of the city of São Paulo among those that will receive the first batches of the dengue vaccine for children and adolescents up to 14 years of age.
The secretary also advised that people “with at least two symptoms” of dengue fever should seek care at health units in the municipality. The main symptoms include: sudden high fever, headache and pain in the back of the eyes, weakness, muscle and joint pain and red spots on the body.
