The South Korean Air Force said that it began today biannual combat air exercises involving its F-35A fighters that can avoid detection by radars and dozens of other warplanes in order to ensure a strong defensive posture.
South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported that the five-day Soring Eagle drill comes amid ongoing tensions caused by North Korea’s continued ballistic missile launches and speculation that it has completed preparations for a seventh nuclear test.
The exercises began at the 29th Air Group of Tactical Combat Weapons in Chungju, 137 kilometers south of Seoul, where about 200 personnel and about 70 F-35As, F-15Ks, KF-16s and an E-warning and control aircraft were mobilized. -737, CN-235 transport planes, and others according to the Air Force.
Colonel Lee Cheol-Woo, head of the group, said the exercise aims to ensure that it has rapid response capabilities to any provocations and the best operational capabilities by verifying offensive capabilities against high-risk targets.
It is noteworthy that the Korean Air Force holds “Soring Eagle” exercises, which were launched in 2008, twice a year.
