Social security savings|Helsinki is on different lines regarding Hus’s budget with Uusimaa’s welfare regions. The chairman of the board of directors considers Thursday’s decision on additional cuts to be irresponsible.
The summary is made by artificial intelligence and checked by a human.
Osmo Soininvaara (green) resigned from Husi’s board of directors due to additional savings.
The association meeting decided on an additional adjustment of 44 million euros for 2025.
Surgeries will probably lead to lengthening of treatment queues and violation of treatment guarantee periods.
The chairman of Hus’s board of directors, Risto Rautava (cok), understands Soininvaara’s decision.
A king politician Osmo Soininvaara (vihr) the resignation of Hus’s group board that happened on Thursday is understood by the chairman Risto Rautavalta (cook).
“I understand Ode [Soininvaara] decision, the situation is pretty crazy.”
In a crazy situation, Rautava refers to the decision made by the association meeting about additional savings: On Thursday, it was decided on an additional adjustment of 44 million euros for the year 2025. Next year, expenses must therefore be cut for a total of 99 million euros.
Rautava still doesn’t know where exactly the cuts will be aimed, but citizens will see it at least as long lines for treatment.
The situation is difficult for Hus, and will probably lead to the treatment guarantee periods required by law not being reached.
That’s why Soininvaara decided to resign from Husi’s board of directors. “The HUS board is forced to break the law. I don’t want to bear legal responsibility for a decision I don’t agree with,” he wrote in X.
Social- and Valvira, which supervises the health sector, has already ordered Hus to bring the treatment queues of non-urgent specialized medical care to a legal level by the beginning of next year.
Currently, in Hus, the goal set by law to start non-urgent treatment no later than six months after it is established is not reached.
“We cannot survive this without additional funding. From a human perspective, the situation is horrible for those in the treatment queue, and from a social point of view, it’s stupid that people can’t get out of the queues into working life,” says Rautava.
Although Rautava considers the recent decision of the group meeting to be irresponsible, he himself does not intend to resign from the group board, whose task is especially to implement strategic goals and maintain the balance of the economy.
The association meeting is the highest decision-making body in Hus, which in turn elects the association board.
Mixed Rautava and Soininvaara represent Helsinki in Husi’s decision-making bodies. In addition to Helsinki, the Hus group includes four Uusimaa welfare regions: West-Uusimaa, Vantaa-Kerava, Central-Uusimaa and Itä-Uusimaa.
According to Rautava, Helsinki supported Husi’s budget on Thursday, in which adaptation measures were significantly more moderate. However, this position lost to the presentation of Länsi-Uusimaa.
“I have the impression that the situation is not understood or cared about elsewhere,” says Rautava, referring to the decision-makers of Uusimaa’s welfare regions.
Rautava also sets his sights on the national level.
“I have already been in contact with the Ministry of Finance and stated that this cannot go on like this, the situation is absolutely absurd.”
Thursday’s decision was about the budget framework. Finally, the budget will be locked in the December joint meeting.
