Sorrow | First the father died, then the mother – Ida Korolainen lost both her parents in a short time

The biggest fear of Ida Korolainen’s life happened when she lost both of her parents unexpectedly. He hopes that society would understand grief better and that there would be more talk about preparing for death.

Ida Korolainen has found comfort in nature in her grief. The Kaup forest in particular has become an important place. Korolainen hopes that society would recognize grief better. “Maybe people stress about what to say. Presence is the most important thing. No need to find the perfect, right words. People could say things that didn’t feel right to me, like there’s a better place after death. I don’t believe in it myself, but it didn’t bother me. I sensed that compassion, even if it went a little wrong in how to say things.”

It was an ordinary autumn day. Ida Korolainen23, was at the Helsinki train station on his way home to Tampere when he got a call from his sister. Father was dead.

It is difficult for Korolainen to remember what happened after this. Days, weeks and months are covered in fog. Almost two years have passed since my father’s death.
