It seems that PlayStation has formed a “conservation team” which may be in charge of preserving the titles PlayStation Classicsaccording to LinkedIn posts and the Twitter account of Garrett Fredleya new Senior Build Engineer of the company.
His posts indeed suggest that this team will be specifically dedicated to game preservation, leading to hope that this will culminate in much-requested PS3 game emulation or, at least, archival work for the vast library of legacy PlayStation games.
“Today is my first day as a Senior Build Engineer for PlayStation, one of their first hires for the newly created preservation team. Preserving games was my first professional passion. It was my first foray into the world of software engineering and into a world that so many are unaware of … let’s make sure our industry history is not forgotten!“reads the post.
It’s unclear what the priorities will be for this new Playstation game preservation team. Fredley himself has three years of experience as a software engineer at Electronic Arts, as noted on his main LinkedIn profile page, where he directed “the retention efforts for the FIFA franchise, resulting in complete archiving of multiple titles.” We just have to wait and see what PlayStation has in store for its players.
