Participating in the lunch planned by the Mixed Parliamentary Front for Competitive Brazil in Brasília, the minister of Infrastructure (Minfra), Tarcísio de Freitas, said that the government can give up the R$ 400 diesel allowance for truck drivers due to the dissatisfaction of the category with the proposal. To avoid a national strike, the federal government suggested the benefit. The movement’s leaders indicated, however, that the amount would not be enough to demobilize a possible strike.
For Tarcisio, the assessment of the amount is a matter of perspective. The minister considered that the amount is small when taking into account that it would be enough for a truck to travel less than 200 kilometers, but it represents “important help” for a person whose monthly income is, on average, R$3,000.

The minister also stated that the category needs to articulate itself and charge higher freight rates, passing on the fuel increases to the transport contractor. He argued that, “sometimes, the truck driver is the one who destroys the freight”. And he justified: “There is always someone who offers a much lower, unfeasible freight, which ends up taking the transport and going through difficulties.”
About the strike scheduled for the month of November, Tarcísio said that he does not believe it will happen, that he does not believe in a large number of truck drivers in the national strike of the category scheduled for the 1st.
For the minister, it is the dialogue with the category that has been deterring the strike attempts. “It’s not the first move we’ve faced. This is the 16th attempt since 2019. The other 15 we managed to avoid on the basis of the conversation”, he said in the interview.
