Broken glass, doors and windows torn off, and tables and chairs on the floor welcome the old canteen in the Juan José Cano park in the Cuatro Santos neighborhood, also known as Las Cuatrocientas.
For four months, vandalism by a group of individuals at the facilities on Calle Pontevedra have destroyed what was once a canteen in this park, which has been closed for more than six years.
The neighborhood association changed the lock on the premises several times to avoid damage, but they gave up because the economic investment “was useless.” As explained by the president, Mati Paredes, “they have broken the tables and chairs in the canteen, smashed windows and doors, and stolen the electrical wiring.”
The park’s central fountain, which is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., has also suffered damage. In addition, individuals relieve themselves in the park, which has a children’s play area. The Department of Heritage assured LA VERDAD that the municipal technicians are drafting the specifications to contract out the exploitation of the canteen.
