“They are going to upload some photos of our president, in Paiporta collecting mud after the Dana, do not open them or see them, your phone will be hacked in 10 seconds” (sic). This claims a viral WhatsApp chain by which you have asked through the chatbot from Maldita.es (+34 644 229 319). The message refers to the visit of Pedro Sánchez to Paiporta on November 3, one of the towns affected by the passage of DANA in Valencia.
It’s a hoax. The message that is shared does not provide any proof of what it claims and is the same as others already denied by Maldita.es. In fact, they have already denied a similar chain when the Moroccan earthquake occurred in 2023 or that of Japan in early 2024. Furthermore, since National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE) They already assured Maldita.es that this type of message “is usually a hoax.”
The chain circulates without providing evidence and INCIBE assures that this type of message is usually a hoax
The message that is circulating, a text chain, also adds that the hacking “it cannot be stopped in any way” and that they would have warned on television about these alleged photos that are shared on WhatsApp. However, we have not found any reference in the media, official sources or cybersecurity organizations about the supposed malicious file that you hack your device in just a few seconds.
The chain invites you to share the alert with your family and friends, but does not provide any proof of its veracity. Furthermore, INCIBE assured Maldita.es that this type of message “is usually a hoax.”
Another hoax about an alleged ‘hack’ on the mobile
This is not the first time a very similar chain has circulated. From Maldita.es they have denied several WhatsApp chains that warn of an alleged malicious file which can hack your phone in just 10 seconds. All these texts follow the same structure and the only thing that changes is the name of the supposed file. For example, at the beginning of 2024 it was already spread that photos of the earthquakes in Japan and Morocco could hack your cell phone, even though it was fake. If we compare that chain with the one circulating now, we can see that the structure and some phrases are practically the same:
In 2023, from Maldita.es they also clarified that some photos of the El Calvario earthquake in Colombia They couldn’t hack your phone. A few years before, in 2020, they denied the hacking with some supposed photos of Chillán volcano of Chile. And in 2018, they said that it was false that some photos of Orizaba peak (in Mexico) They could infect your mobile phone in a matter of seconds. It’s a hoax that’s been around for years. and that has been denied several times by the security forces.
During the COVID-19 pandemicthese types of chains were also spread on WhatsApp with names that referred to different countriesas “Mexico did it”, “India is doing it” either “Argentina is achieving it”. But neither INCIBE nor the authorities consulted at the time were aware of these alleged malicious files.
Likewise, these types of messages also arrive and circulate in other countries. For example, Checkeda fact-checking medium from Argentina that is part of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN), denied that By downloading some photos of the Cariaco earthquake in Venezuela, you will hack the phone in 10 seconds.
In short, It is a hoax that some photos by Pedro Sánchez, President of the Government, collecting mud in Paiporta (Valencia) can hack you the mobile in 10 seconds.
