More than a week later, the consequences of DANA continue to plague many towns in the province of Valencia. The floods that occurred on October 31 in the Spanish Levante have not only ended the lives of more than 200 peoplebut they have also destroyed the homes of many residents who are now trying to rebuild their lives after the catastrophe.
It is not easy to return to the previous life, because in towns like Paiporta, Benetússer, Chiva, Utiel, Catarroja or Alfafar the tasks of cleaning and disinfection they continue. However, while many citizens have turned to these Valencian towns, the chaos has also allowed some criminals to take advantage of plunder and swindle to the neighbors. During these days, in many areas of Valencia they have denounced the insecurity that is experienced in the streets since these floods occurred.
Some residents of Alfafar denounce several squatting attempts after the DANA
Added to the wave of robberies that have occurred are squatting attempts that have happened in many locations. Some of those affected by this crime have been Ramón and Dolores, two residents of Alfafar who were on the verge of being the victim of a squat. As reported in ‘On everyone’s lips’the Cuatro program, it all happened when a man tried to enter their homes illegally.
The owner of one of these homes has explained to one of the reporters on Nacho Abad’s program that everything happened when he was inside his home: «My daughter came and There was a Moor trying to force the locktrying to enter. Here all the neighbors know each other. Then, my daughter caught his attention and he ran away», recalled Ramón, visibly affected by what happened.
This episode has deeply affected the local families, especially Dolores, who assures that they have “absolute insecurity” in the town: «We are abandoned and they enter our houses as they want. I have had to put rags and old shoes because otherwise they wouldn’t fit. We caught them by miracle», the old woman said through tears, regretting that these dangerous situations occur.

The squatting attempts are not the only devastating episodes that have occurred in the neighborhood. Dolores has also related that, during the passage of DANA, she herself had to help many of your neighbors to prevent them from dying: «My neighbor Conchi was drowning. During these days, in Alfafar they have witnessed the danger that looms over their streets and that has spread fear among the citizens: «We are very afraid. They are looting everythingthey are taking advantage of poor people’s situations,” this Valencian neighbor has cried out, asking for solutions.
