Violence against politicians, such as now against SPD politicians Corner: Bavaria’s Prime Minister Söder sees the AfD ideology as one cause.
Munich – The attack on SPD politician Matthias Ecke is spreading. Markus Söder has now named someone who is partly responsible for the attacks on democratic politicians: the right-wing extremists AfD. The CSU boss pointed out on Monday RTL and ntv points out that “the AfD is inciting everyone.”
In connection with this, Söder drew historical parallels to acts of violence in the final phase of the Weimar Republic. He spoke of a “preliminary stage” that exists in Germany today. Back when “Nazi groups, (…) also communist groups, beat democrats and pushed them back,” they “created a feeling of insecurity in the country” and “then presented themselves as the saviors.” Groups like this shouldn’t be allowed to get away with something like that today.
Söder in an interview: The AfD as “Putin’s agents of influence in Germany”
Back in January, Bavaria’s Prime Minister called for a tougher approach against the AfD – at the same time Skepticism towards a possible AfD ban being discussed. Last July, Söder chose in an interview with the Munich Mercury clear words: “The AfD is a real threat to democracy and prosperity!” he said.
And continued: “Franz Josef Strauss would have described the AfD as Moscow’s fifth column. Putin’s influence agents in Germany are the AfDers. Beyond their crude ideas about how to treat minorities, these are the Kremlin’s most loyal vassals in our country.”
Söder sees the “whole AfD ideology” as a reason for youth violence
In Dresden on Friday, SPD politician Matthias Ecke was beaten up by four young men while hanging up election posters in Dresden. The two Green Party politicians Kai Gehring and Rolf Fliß were attacked in Essen on Thursday. Ecke is Saxon SPD’s top candidate for the European elections.
A 17-year-old turned himself in to the police on Sunday night and said he was responsible for the crime. A total of four suspects have now been identified. The four accused are young men aged 17 and 18.
Söder now said that young people in particular were being incited via the Internet, “especially by the whole AfD ideology”. Action must be taken against this, he agreed RTL/ntv. (frs with dpa)
