A survey verified the extent to which some solutions such as monitoring systems and electronic medical records are already used in social welfare residences
There pandemic from Sars-Cov-2 it hit hard the nursing homes (Rsa), highlighting a whole series of criticalities. The digital health solutions. However above all apps and mobile devices have found widespread use (consolidating a trend already noted in the 1st Report of theLong Term Care Observatory, created by Cergas Sda Bocconi researchers of 2018), the rest are still in their infancy. He confirms it the RSA survey beyond the emergency, the road to innovation, created by the research company Ipsos on behalf of Ascom Ums Italia.
It is about a qualitative analysis based on fourteen interviews aimed at seven managers of large groups of Rsa (from five structures upwards), and seven exponents of Rsa single or belonging to small groups with less than five residences. Within the interviewed sample the presence of monitoring systems and electronic medical records; removal detection systems; cunified communication and collaboration of the service team; data analysis software. As for the vital function monitoring systems, these turned out to be almost absent. The underlying reason given is that RSAs are structures that fulfill a fcare anointing rather than health care (but Covid has questioned all this). Technologies that detect the departure from the structure and location of guests they are considered uninteresting, even where they are being experimented. In fact, the RSA almost always have a lot of staff at their disposal. Furthermore it becomes difficult to make the guest wear digital devices, not to mention the privacy consent issue which is complicated when a family member or guardian has to provide it in place of the patient.
In the context of the technologies with which to manage the communication flows between staff and patients, Nurse call systems are by far the most widespread also because the accreditation standards make them mandatory. But it’s about systems used for at least 10-15 years, sometimes even 20. Finally, the collection of data: i softwares that record the calls, the intervention times, the interval between taking charge and the conclusion of the intervention are not very present. What are the obstacles highlighted along the path of technological transformation? Costs: the investments would all burden the structures as there is no coverage in the regional reimbursements in favor of the Rsa. Then there is to consider the impact on internal organizational processes and the resistance to the new on the part of the staff. Respondents expressed reservations also about the actual usefulness of innovation since the numerical ratio between staff and clients is very high. Finally, the managers of the structures raise problems related to structural barriers (starting from the Internet connection) and the territorial fragmentation of the RSA.
