The Social Services of the Murcia City Council offered more than 3,400 minors in the municipality between the ages of 6 and 17 the option of participating in the 91 summer schools distributed in schools, cultural centers and municipal spaces in all the neighborhoods and districts throughout the summer period , as reported by city hall sources in a press release.
In this sense, the councilor for the Elderly, Housing and Social Services, Paqui Pérez, accompanied by the delegate in Murcia and the Valencian Community of the La Caixa Foundation, Lourdes Toribio, presented the program for nursery schools, whose theme this year revolves around around the ‘Right to Education’, with the aim of giving continuity and stability to the work started within the framework of the project to commemorate the Rights of Children.
In this way, the activities, which will take place between June 27 and September 2, will be playful and educational, adapting to the profile of the participating minors and will alternate with outdoor games, excursions to nearby environments and outings to the municipal swimming pools in La Ñora, Corvera, El Raal, El Palmar, Rincón de Seca, Sangonera la Seca, Aljucer, Alquerías, Sangonera la Verde, Puente Tocinos and Murcia Parque, with a total of 6,731 baths.
In general, the summer school hours will be from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., except for those that have a dining room service, in which case it will be until 3:00 p.m.; and until 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., in the case of centers for reconciling work and family life.
About thirty places
Each summer school has a maximum capacity of 35 places, with priority given to minors referred by professionals from the municipal Social Services centres. The places that are not filled in this way will go to public offer and will be ordered based on the letter U. The entire registration process is explained on the website https://serviciossociales.murcia.es/.
Of the total of 3,400 places offered, 1,000 are made thanks to the collaboration agreement signed between the Murcia City Council and the La Caixa Foundation for the comprehensive development of the CaixaProinfancia program, whose objective is to guarantee the educational and social promotion of minors between 0 and 18 years so that they have the same opportunities as other children and adolescents. CaixaProInfancia summer schools have an average capacity of between 20 and 50 places.
In this context, the mayor Paqui Pérez highlighted the coordinated work with CaixaProinfancia and the social entities that make it up, both in the field of space and resource management and programming, as a result of the collaboration agreement signed between the Murcia City Council and the La Caixa Foundation. She also referred to the coordinated work with various municipal services for the execution of summer school projects.
Specifically, with Education and Culture, for the transfer and provision of spaces, with Sports for access to swimming pools and with Health for the training of educators and monitors in terms of basic notions of first aid in order to guarantee the quality and safety of the activities carried out.
In total, there are several of these activities, specifically, the MYP Summer Schools are organized by Social Services and are aimed at minors between the ages of 6 and 12. The date of completion is from July 4 to 22 and priority is given to minors referred from the Social Services area. In total there are 22 summer schools included in this section.
PAI Summer Schools, in coordination with the La Caixa Foundation, without dining room. These are 4 summer schools that are carried out jointly with CaixaProinfancia, sharing spaces and programming and making resources profitable. The duration is three or four weeks, depending on the neighborhood or district and the age of the minors participating is from 6 to 12 years.
PAI Summer Schools, in coordination with the La Caixa Foundation, with a dining room. These five summer schools have the same structure as the previous ones, with the particularity that they have extended hours from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and have a dining room service, to which children referred by Social Services will have access. Likewise, all will take place between July 4 and 29.
Summer Schools with teenagers. Framed in the 13-17 project, they are characterized by being a continuity of the project that is developed throughout the year, in which the activities are adapted to a program in which the area of leisure and free time is prioritized. For this reason, they are not open to new registrations, except in the cases of referrals from the social educators of the Social Services Centers and Specialized Programs.
Summer Schools in the eight Centers for the Reconciliation of Work and Family Life. This modality responds to the needs of reconciling work, family life and leisure and free time of the families of the municipality between June 27 and September 2.
There are a total of 1,060 places for the entire summer vacation period aimed at minors between the ages of 3 and 12/16, depending on each center, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (without dining room) and until 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. with dining room. Of the total number of places available, there will be a reserve of 20% for minors referred from Social Services.
CaixaProinfancia Summer Schools. The La Caixa Foundation program plans to carry out a total of 33 summer schools, with a total of 1,000 places, some of which are held jointly with the PAI summer schools, as indicated in previous sections.
Likewise, regarding those aimed at adolescents, activities are also shared with those of the 13-17 project, enhancing the coordination that is maintained throughout the year between the Murcia City Council and the bank.
camps
As for the camps, during the month of July and the first fortnight of August places are arranged in different camps outside the municipality, where minors enjoy a few days of outdoor activities and in environments other than the usual ones.
In this way, boys and girls from 6 to 13 years old go to a farm-school in Elche, while adolescents up to 17 years old participate in a camp in Los Alcázares. This year, the number of concerted camp places is 113, with 7-day shifts; and the participating minors are derived by educators from the Social Services Centers and Specialized Programs. The objective that we pursue with these camps is “to favor the personal growth of the minor users of the Social Services centers through their integration and social participation”, concluded Paqui Pérez.
