The Department of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality has launched a campaign to raise awareness and sensitize society about the phenomenon of ‘homelessness’. This initiative, which is part of the Inclusion Strategy for Homeless Peopleis developed through posters on advertising supports installed at bus stops in Santander, Torrelavega, Castro Urdiales, Piélagos and Camargo.
The Inclusion Strategy for Homeless People has four working groups to develop the different axes structured in prevention, care, housing and strengthening and improving the system. In addition to these five municipalities of Cantabria with more than 20,000 inhabitants, within the working groups they also participate Third Sector entities such as the Red Cross, Cocina Económica, Nueva Vida and Cáritas; the General Directorate of Housing and the Mental Health Unit of the Cantabrian Health Service.
In a press release the Government has indicated that it is also reviewing and updating the inventory of available resources in order to regulate homeless care centers and services. It is part of the program in which work has been done on this problem, and which requires co-responsibility both between public administrations and between them and social entities.
The campaign is also part of the actions included in the component 22 ‘Economy of care and reinforcement of equality and inclusion policies’ of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan – Next Generation. In addition to this campaign, which coincides with the World Homeless Day which is celebrated this Monday, October 28, within the framework of this Strategy, the information available on the reality of ‘homelessness’ in Cantabria is being updated.
