Wind currents will carry soot from fires in the southern part of the Amazon; there will be a lack of visibility
Meteorologists from MetSul warned this Monday (September 9, 2024) that smoke from fires in Brazil will reach Buenos Aires and Montevideo. The soot is expected to reach the entire Uruguayan territory and part of central Argentina.
According to experts, a smoke corridor originating in the southern part of the Amazon follows a low-level air current that will reach the southern region of the country. Thus, this wind current will carry the soot to areas that have not yet been affected.

The September fires in Pará, Mato Grosso and Bolivia contributed to the presence of smoke in the atmosphere. A large fire in the Chaco region of Paraguay also increased the smoke in the region.
According to meteorologists, a large area of South America will have its sky changed in color by the smoke. It will reduce visibility and turn the sun orange and red.
