Thieves go wherever their victims are. And in recent months, with the rise of teleworking and hybrid environments, they have moved to the environment on-line. Last year millions of people started working remotely. Portable devices took on a new importance. Salons, cafeterias, and libraries were turned into offices. In this context, cybersecurity has become an essential pillar. Last year, the National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE) managed more than 130,000 cybersecurity incidents. The numbers keep increasing every year, but also the possible solutions. 70% of Spanish companies have increased their cybersecurity budget in 2022, according to the Digital Trust Survey report, produced by PwC. The problem has become cross-cutting. “Small and medium-sized companies thought that this did not affect them,” he explains. Antonio Ramos, CEO and founder of LEET Security, cybersecurity consultancy for companies. But the pandemic has proven, the hard way, that it did. And the SMEs have had to put the batteries and the antivirus.
“Companies have realized that if they drop a server or computer equipment they cannot work. That you have to pay attention to cybersecurity because without it they run the risk of ceasing to operate, ”says Ramos. The problem, moreover, is not only where we connect, but how much. In an environment offline interactions and information exchange do not always occur through our screens. In a hybrid or totally remote one, yes, something that, according to Ramos, makes the company more vulnerable. “The increased connection time makes the exposure much higher. There is a cocktail of factors that have made us realize the importance of cybersecurity ”. The risks have increased, but so have the defenses to face them.

Since its introduction in 2013, Samsung Knox it has evolved into a comprehensive security platform. The software integrated in the smartphones of the brand for years is now combined with a hardware specific and isolated, where critical data is stored. The physical and the virtual shape Samsung Knox Vault, the natural evolution of the security platform.
Samsung Knox Vault is included in all devices of the series Galaxy S21 and in the folding Galaxy Z, in order to protect them against physical attacks and cyber attacks. This system isolates the most critical information on the terminal, such as keys and digital certificates, to protect them against unauthorized access. Its new protocol allows to separate confidential data from the Android operating system, avoiding security breaches such as malware.
Spain, country of SMEs
Albert Agustinoy, professor of the Master of Intellectual Property and Information Technologies of Esade Law School, believes that when speaking of cybersecurity “the emphasis should be on preventive measures rather than reactive advice in the event of an incident.” Thus, having policies for action in the event of an attack will be important. “But it will also be to offer users the necessary training so that they become familiar with those policies and procedures ”. We are talking about devices and cybersecurity, but, in many cases, we are also talking about human failures. The rise of remote work has made workers and entrepreneurs of SMEs, without training or a cybersecurity department, have to learn to protect themselves. “They have to stop being the weakest link in the protection chain of the systems to become agents to ensure their protection,” says Agustinoy. It is a major cultural change and it has to affect a lot of people.

SMEs are the thread of the Spanish business fabric. They comprise more than 95% of companies and generate more than 90% of employment. By having a small number of employees, it is normal that they do not have a cybersecurity manager. “Their business objective is not to be safe but to sell,” Ramos emphasizes. “That is why you have to trust third parties to do it for you. And you have to choose well ”.
Of all the devices used at work, the expert believes that mobiles and tablets are the safest. Laptops would be, on the contrary, the most vulnerable. The difference between one and the other is that the former have an environment more controlled by the operating system (Android or iOS) that limits the configuration possibilities, which we can download.
Samsung offers mobiles and tablets included in the list of terminals Android Enterprise Recommended (AER). The latest additions are ZFold3 and Zflip3. This means that they have joined Android Enterprise, a program run by Google whose objective is to verify that the products meet minimum requirements and good practices for the management and security of business mobility. The fact that Samsung participates in this program offers its customers greater assurance that it meets (and in fact exceeds) the requirements of hardware and software established by Google for businesses.
Samsung and Google They have been working closely together for a long time to provide businesses with the highest possible mobile security. But this has been reinforced during the last two years. Because remote work is now more common, but also more vulnerable than ever. And companies, from the largest to the smallest, have to protect themselves.
