Inflation is reduced in March to 3.8% in the Region of Murcia, which drops by almost 3 points compared to the month of February. Even so, this interannual rate is above the national average, which stands at 3.3%, according to the latest data published by the National Institute of Statistics. In addition, the Region ranks as the third community that registers the highest increase in the CPI compared to March 2022, behind the Canary Islands (4.6%) and Andalusia (3.9%), and the autonomous cities of Ceuta (4.5%) and Melilla (4.9%).
However, the price of food does not give respite to the citizens of the Region despite the elimination of VAT on basic products. The price of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 17% compared to March 2022. Despite this annual increase, there has been a minimal drop in prices (0.6 points) compared to the previous month.
Alcoholic beverages and tobacco are not far behind either. These increased by 9.3% compared to March 2022. Household goods (8.5%) and hotels, cafes and restaurants (7.3%) follow in this increase. The prices of leisure and culture (4.4%), clothing and footwear (3.2%), medicines (2.6%), communications (2.3%) and education ( 1.6%). The CPI only decreased in housing (-17%) and transport (-5.5%).
