Microsoft has announced an update for Skype that will make the platform completely ad-free. The update will be available soon to users on all platforms. It also introduces improved AI-powered image creation tools in Skype for Windows and macOS, and the ability to automatically sign in on iOS if you’re already signed in to another Microsoft application. “Our latest release removes all ads from Skype channels and the entire platform, providing a smoother, cleaner, and more enjoyable user experience,” said Irene Namuganyi, product manager at Skype.
The removal of ads means you will no longer see ads in the main chat interface or the channels section of Skype. Skype’s “Today” section, however, will remain, with the news feed powered by MSN. While this is a tab that many Skype users are likely unaware of, you can disable it entirely by going to Settings > Appearance. In addition to removing ads in Skype, Microsoft is also improving the AI image creator features within the Windows and macOS app. The AI image creator will soon be available to quickly access within chat windows, and AI-generated images will expand on click. Microsoft has also spruced up some UI elements, making the image creator feel more integrated into Apple’s macOS design.
