The countdown begins for a 2022 in which “we will see all the engines” on Sky, which today presented its motorsport season, the richest ever. Formula 1 and MotoGP remain the reference championships, but the four and two wheels do not end there, on the contrary: there is much more this year that is added to the already very wide offer of Pay TV, able to launch into a new challenge to always offer the best of motorsport.
It starts in March and will arrive in November, with the end of the championships, after having spent 40 weekends with over 380 races and more than 1400 hours of live programming. It starts with the confirmed Formula 1, MotoGP, Superbike and Formula E championships. The NTT Indycar Series represents a welcome return, but there are also debuts: this year on Sky you can follow the WRC, the GT World Challenge Europe and the W Series, all distributed among the Sky Sport F1, Sky Sport MotoGP and Sky Sport Action channels.
Formula 1, the beginning of a new era on Sky
The long-awaited 2022 of Formula 1 has arrived: the new regulation, which has led to totally different cars, marks an important change in the top sport of four wheels. But Sky will not be missing and, while Formula 1 is on track for the Barcelona tests, the highly confirmed Sky Sport F1 team is warming up for the start of the championship, which will take place in mid-March with the Bahrain Grand Prix. From Manama we will start for a season of 23 rounds, the longest in the history of Formula 1. “At the wheel” of the commentary we will find Carlo Vanzini, flanked by Marc Gene and Roberto Chinchero, with Mara Sangiorgio in the pits and Federica Masolin accompanied by Davide Valsecchi in the pre and post race insights.
MotoGP without Valentino, but how beautiful Italy!
MotoGP is not experiencing the technical revolution of Formula 1, but 2022 certainly represents an important moment: it will be the first year without Valentino Rossi (who we will see in the GT World Challenge Europe). The pivotal man of the sport who made him great will not be on the starting grid, but Sky Sport MotoGP does not stop, on the contrary. In the longest season ever, as many as 21 appointments, Guido Meda and Mauro Sanchini will tell from the commentary booth the deeds of the strongest pilots in the world, with an eye to the many Italians who are picking up the baton of the Doctor (and which will be discussed in the new format dedicated to pilots monographs). Also this year Vera Spadini will lead the pre and post race, while Antonio Boselli and Sandro Donato Grosso will talk about the MotoGP from the pits, flanked by Mattia Pasini, who will be the third correspondent in charge of technical commentary. Also comes “Paddock Life”, a new format that aims to tell the magical world of the world from behind the scenes.
Over 20 championships: the motorsport offer on Sky is the widest ever
Formula 1 and MotoGP are the top championships, but on Sky there is space for 360-degree motorsport, with the arrival of many categories that further enrich the offer. In fact, in 2022 the NTT Indycar Series returns, which will be commented by the duo Matteo Pittaccio-Biagio Maglienti and will start this weekend with the appointment in St. Petersburg. This season will also be that of the WRC debut on Sky: the world rally arrives on the most popular Pay TV in Italy, with comments from Rosario Triolo and Lucio Rizzica. Furthermore, April 13 will be the turn of the GT World Challenge, where we will see Valentino Rossi in his “second life as a driver”, making his debut at Imola. There is also “the pink quota”: the W Series is also underway on Sky, the all-female championship that will begin on May 8 from Miami and which will be commented by Alessandra Neri for all eight events.
Not only news: one of the many confirmations of Sky also for the 2022 season is the World Superbike. The production derivatives experienced an incredible championship last year and the latest tests carried out in the past few days have shown that all the ingredients are in place to have an equally thrilling season this year. It will begin with the Aragon round, where we will meet again the duel Jonathan Rea-Toprak Razgatlioglu and to which will be added Alvaro Bautista, who appeared in great shape on his return with Ducati. Team that wins does not change, therefore in the commentary booth for the Superbike we will again have Edoardo Vercellesi joined by Max Temporali this year.
Furthermore, the preparatory categories for Formula 1 cannot be forgotten: also in 2022 Sky will follow F2 and F3 live. For the four wheels, the Ferrari Challenge and the Porsche Supercup can also be followed. As for the two-wheelers, on the other hand, the motor season includes Moto2 and Moto3, classes that surround the MotoGP. There will also be FIM Junior GP, CIV and Rookies Cup. Not even the electric is put aside, which represents the future of motorsport and sees its main championships in Formula E and MotoE, obviously broadcast live on Sky.
The collaboration with Eurosport also continues, which will culminate with the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the most popular event of the World Endurance Championship which will take place on 11 and 12 June. It will also be possible to follow the 1000 Miglia of Sebring USA live, scheduled for 18 March. On Sky channels 210 and 211, the WTCR FIA World Touring Cup and PURE ETCR will also be available for four wheels, and for two wheels the Motocross World Championship with the MXGP and MX2 classes, the BSB and the Speedway.
