The Czech company Skoda Auto, part of the Volkswagen concern, suspends all its activities in Russia, including the production of cars and exports. This is reported on March 3 “RIA News” with reference to the press service of the auto brand.
“By suspending business activities in the Russian Federation, the Board of Directors of the Volkswagen Group is responding to the overall situation, which is characterized by significant uncertainty and disruptions,” the press service said.
The Russian market is one of the most important for Skoda Auto. In 2021, the concern’s share was the second largest sales market in the Russian Federation, 90,400 vehicles were sold here. In Russia, Skoda Auto produces Rapid, Octavia, Karoq and Kodiaq models. Three models are produced at the company’s plant in Nizhny Novgorod, Rapid is produced at the plant in Kaluga.
On March 1, it was reported that global car manufacturers, including Volvo, General Motors, Volkswagen, and the motorcycle company Harley-Davidson, announced the suspension of deliveries to Russia amid a special operation by the Russian military in Ukraine.
In addition, from February 28 to March 5, 2022, an idle mode will be introduced at the Renault Russia plant, which produces Renault and Nissan cars. Reason: some interruptions in the supply of components.
Also, the British company Jaguar Land Rover has suspended shipments of new cars to Russian dealers since February 24. The official reason for stopping deliveries was not named in the message. According to dealers, this is due to the ruble exchange rate.
At the same time, on the same day it was reported that there was no excitement in car dealerships. Cars are available – both new and used. Representatives of dealerships recommended not to postpone the purchase if there is a need for a car.
