Skoda has started a pilot project in which it will test two electric trucks at its main plant in Mladá Bleslav to manage logistics. The two full electric vehicles they will be used for the transport of materials within the production site of the Bohemian brand, with the Czech manufacturer starting this pilot project by planning the entry into operation of other similar vehicles in order to further reduce CO2 emissions.
As part of the “Green Future” strategy, Skoda is implementing a series of sustainability measures to be applied to the production and logistics departments. Heavy-duty battery-powered vehicles they will thus be used to move components and materials inside the hub. Skoda has a plan to add more electric trucks to its fleet and foresees a reduction of up to 60 tons of CO2 emissions per year, compared to alternative vehicles that use a diesel engine.
The electrification of its truck fleet at the highest level it will help Skoda to systematically reduce its environmental footprint and to strengthen its environmental objectives as part of the corporate strategy “Next Level – Skoda Strategy 2030”. Tests with electric trucks began at the beginning of last October.
Skoda’s logistics division has thus been equipped with two standard trailers and these models are expected to replace diesel trucks on their respective routes by next May. The next step will be transporting the batteries of the electric models through the plant in specially manufactured and shortened semi-trailers starting in June 2022. These electric trucks offer a range of 80 kilometers per charge and require charging times of 4 and a half hours.
