Skoda Motorsport exists 120 years and that should be celebrated in the Czech Republic. For example, it was decided to completely rebuild an 1100 OHC Coupé. Only two copies of that racing car were built at the time (in 1959 and 1960), because the competition class in which the car drove was discontinued.
Both copies did not participate in many official races, and were sold to private owners in 1966. However, both the 159 and the 1960 copy came to a brutal end after a crash, in which the latter even burned out.
Old and new
The oldest example has now been completely reconstructed. Original parts (including the engine) were used as much as possible, which in one way or another came back into the possession of the Czech manufacturer. Other parts, notably the lightweight body, were recreated from the original plans, using 3D printing and computer-aided design (CAD) technology.
The 1100 OHC Coupé is powered by a 1.1 liter aluminum four-cylinder engine based on a production power unit. However, several adjustments, including double overhead camshafts and a higher compression ratio, allowed the power to be increased from 40 to 92 hp.
eye-catcher
Thanks to its low weight (only 550 kilos!), the car could thus reach a speed of 200 km/h, and the road holding would also have been exceptional. Thanks to an almost perfect weight distribution because the engine was placed behind the front axle and the gearbox and differential at the rear.
The carefully reconstructed 1100 OHC Coupé, like the two open versions that preceded it in the 1950s, of which two original copies still exist, will be used as an eye-catcher to highlight the sporty past of Skoda. Initiatives that we as car enthusiasts can only encourage. The Czechs already made the video below to let us enjoy it.
