Skiing Vladimir Putin promoted Olympic champion Alexander Bolshunov to captain of the Russian National Guard

In addition, Bolshunov was appointed a member of the Order of St. Alexander Nevsky.

Alexander Bolshunov received a magnificent tribute to his Olympic success in Russia, a Norwegian VG magazine news.

President Vladimir Putin promoted Bolshunov to captain of the Russian National Guard. Also the second star of the cross-country team Denis Spitsov received the same promotion.

Bolshunov won five medals at the Beijing Olympics, three of which were gold. Spitsov took one gold and silver in the 30-mile combination race.

Belonging to the national chart is very common among Russian athletes. For national team skiers, for example Sergei Ustjugov, Alexei Chervotkin, Aleksander Bessmertnyh, Aleksander Legkov and Vasili Rochev belong to its members.

The task of the National Guard is to safeguard the Russian administration, legality and public order. It is a paramilitary police organization, also known as Putin’s personal army.

On Friday Bolshunov also received another significant tribute from Putin. The President appointed him a member of the Order of St. Alexander Nevsky. This title was not awarded to anyone else on the Russian Olympic team.
