Skiing Ristomatti Hakola cycles and walks inside at first and takes a breath away

The skier tries to keep the mood high, even though two ribs broke in the Ruka World Cup.

skier Ristomatti Hakola is pleased to have survived his fall on Saturday by breaking two ribs. A fast-paced decline could even make the ingredients for a memoir.

“I survived. It could have been much worse than it was, ”Hakola emphasized to STT on Tuesday.

In the Helsinki metropolitan area, you can already go skiing on artillery slopes in a few places, but Hakola, who lives in Kauniainen, is not in a hurry on the slopes.

“I do what I can according to my symptoms. In the morning I cycled lightly. Next, I thought about trying a treadmill, but of course walking. Breathing feels dull and cannot be done at high power. It has been difficult to find a sleeping position, but this does not interfere with normal life. ”

Indoor cycling means in practice that the road bike is attached to a so-called trainer

Indoors there is a clear reason for the movement. The risk of slipping outside is increasing, but on the other hand Hakola is also aware of the dangers of the home. In the summer, he knocked his toe on the couch, and his toe broke. The training season was difficult, so the preparation for the World Championship silver medalist in the sprint was progressing painfully.

On the eve of the Ruka race, he stressed that there would be no more room for new setbacks.

“Right around the corner was next,” Hakola laughed at his fate afterwards.

On Friday, he crashed in a sprint. On Saturday, the 15-mile traditional race crashed harder. In addition to the side, he got this in his face, but the side injury is what covers the February Olympics into the twilight.

“I won’t be able to ski for at least a couple of weeks. Then when I get there, I start on the local trail and later continue to Vuokatti. I’ve gotten there before. ”

Return it will happen to the racetracks in due course, but no one knows if Hakola will be in Olympic condition by February.

“In top sports, it wouldn’t bother much to give a handicap, but I got cards like that, and annoyance doesn’t help. I try to keep my mood high. The Beijing Olympics are the most important games of my career, but if I don’t get there, then I won’t. It is life.”
