Skiing Krista Pärmäkoski faces the hardest race of her career: “Ambulance rides can be needed” – Severe circumstances made the coach make a special proposal

Krista Pärmäkoski’s coach Matti Haavisto made an unprecedented proposal behind the scenes.

Zhangjiakou

From Sunday The women’s 30-mile freestyle race is likely to become epic. Predictions point to a very exceptional race.

It is descriptive Krista Pärmäkoski personal trainer Matti Haaviston Zhangjiakou behind the scenes to the judges of the Games To Jussi Prykär proposal. Pärmäkoski himself had also heard about it.

“Mati’s throw is essentially about how the race is coming,” Pärmäkoski emphasizes.

According to a proposal made by Haavisto, who is part of the maintenance team of the Finnish national team, it would also be advisable to run the trails of the traditional skiing route on the 4 x 7.5 km route.

Usually the free skiing style is clearly faster than the traditional one.

Haavisto presented his unprecedented idea at least half seriously. Well aware that the jury is not asking for traditional grooves on the route.

“It’s hard to say what the pace of the two ski styles would be in such a situation. However, I myself have already packed my traditional fight, which means that in any case I would have started fighting, ”Pärmäkoski said.

“The career race is ahead. There will be no enjoyable trip, but definitely a memorable one. Not even a meter is free. This is the first time that thirty people have been skiing at such a high level for the first time, and in addition to the already heavy terrain, challenges arise from slow snow and strong winds. ”

Zhangjiakoun mountainous landscapes have seen a number of total breaks for athletes on both the cross-country and biathlon sides. Some have needed first aid immediately after reaching the finish line, after their vomiting reflexes.

Pärmäkoski believes that even ambulance rides may be needed now.

“Someone might pull such limits that ambulance rides may be needed. When the acid hits this high, the body can go completely shut in an instant. Of course, we hope that no one will find themselves in such a severe situation, ”Pärmäkoski emphasizes.

“Interruptions of varying degrees are sure to be seen anyway. These are exceptional races because every skier has had to collect more or less themselves when they reach the finish line. At high altitudes, recovery is clearly slower. ”

Therese Johaug is a traditional number one favorite.

Normally co-starts the world’s number one woman Therese Johaug has fired from the bang to flee, and in many cases no one has remained on the heels of a Norwegian star for long.

“Johaug is still the number one favorite, but otherwise the playing field is quite enigmatic. Now Johaug is hardly trying to escape in that wind on the first run, maybe only on the last, ”Pärmäkoski exclaims.

Kympin Pärmäkoski, who has traditionally stretched to Olympic bronze, will leave the race with his eyes already familiar. An experienced skier ordered Finnish-themed sunglasses before the Olympics.

Norwegian biathlon star Johannes Thingnes Bö has worn a luxury watch on his wrist at the competition, which is known to be worth around € 350,000. Pärmäkoski laughs when comparing his own special product to a Norwegian one.

“My glasses are sweet for the sick,” Pärmäkoski glows in his glasses made in Urjala.

“But they are not worth hundreds of thousands of euros,” the Finn chasing the medal continues with a laugh.

Pärmäkoski also has another special task for Sunday. He will carry the Finnish flag at the closing ceremony.

“An honorable job that I dreamed of as a little girl. A busy day comes from Sunday, ”he says.

In Sunday’s race, Finland’s number one medal hope has already won Olympic silver in the race Kerttu Niskanen. Her coach and husband Juho Mikkonen believes in the medal seam.

“Kertu’s strength has not been free, but he definitely has a good chance of a medal now, because the race is so high,” Mikkonen explains.

The women will start the 30-kilometer race in Finnish time on Sunday at 5 p.m.
