Jannik wins the first set, the Serbian stops with an injury during the second. Fabio surrenders in three sets to world number 8 in the second round
Blowing out 21 candles after his winning debut with Thanasi Kokkinakis last day, Jannik Sinner gives himself another round passed at the Masters 1000 in Cincinnati. In the second match staged on Court 4, the n.1 of Italy imposed himself on the Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic (in the second set retired due to injury) thus grabbing the round of 16 of the tournament with a score of 7-5 3-1 , at the end of an hour and 15 minutes of play. Tomorrow for the Next Gen in Sesto Pusteria there will be the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime who demolished the Australian Alex De Minaur with a score of 6-3 6-2.
The match
–
He maneuvers well from the baseline and is deep and aggressive in response. Sinner’s start of the game is the right one and taking advantage of the opponent’s second, after just 15 minutes of play he finds himself leading 3-1. Having made him the first break of the match, the South Tyrolean fails to confirm the advantage just obtained and with a turn of service to forget he gives the bar to zero. Suddenly, everything needs to be redone with the level and intensity of the match increasing exponentially, as does Kecmanovic’s tennis. On the rhythm dictated by the services we reach the hot phase of the partial, with the Italian who in the eleventh game avoids the landing at the tie-break and with suffering from the advantages (at the sixth set point) he takes the 7-5. Jannik is a jackhammer also in the second half and with full confidence he is quick and good to grab the break at the opening. In the first three games he only concedes two points: the kid is on fire. On the other side of the net, however, something is wrong and a further assault on the service avoided, after an hour and 15 minutes of play Kecmanovic decides to retire due to unspecified physical problems. At 3-1 there is the handshake at the net.
ILLUSION FOGNINI
–
First he believes in it and gives hope, then he surrenders to the opponent’s comeback. So in the second round Fabio Fognini’s adventure at the Masters 1000 in Cincinnati ends, and unfortunately with many regrets. Passing through the qualifiers, in fact, the Ligurian despite a good level of tennis expressed during the day – and having been ahead of a set at the start – gave way to seeded # 6 Andrey Rublev, victorious with a score of 6 -7 (7) 7-6 (3) 6-2 in two hours and 25 minutes of the match. In the first set, despite a faded set point at 5-3, the Ligurian was able to take advantage of the right opportunities during the tie-break, where he went ahead with the score of 9-7. In the second half, however, the reversal of scenarios began with the players who followed the rhythm of services up to the tie-break, this time brought home by Rublev 7-3. In the third, the turning point finally came in the fifth game with Fabio conceding the first of two breaks by committing a double fault. After 5-2 off Rublev, it was enough to serve to win the match. In the next round for the n.8 of the world ranking there will be the win of the match between the home player Taylor Fritz (n.13 Atp) and the Australian Nick Kyrgios (n.28 Atp)
