On the slimy and treacherous asphalt of Singapore the third free practice session saw a funny head-to-head between the two main protagonists of this World Championship: Charles Leclerc And Max Verstappen. The two stars of Ferrari and Red Bull challenged each other at a distance trying to snatch the best time of the session from each other. In the end it was the Monegasque who prevailed, half a second faster than the world leader, who will have his first world championship match point on the Marina Bay circuit.
Behind the two class ’97 came the second Ferrari of Carlos Sainz: the Spaniard, however, made up for a full second gap from his box mate. A good fourth was Fernando Alonso, able to break the Ferrari-Red Bull duopoly by putting himself about a tenth of a second ahead of Perez’s RB18. The result of the second Alpine was also very positive, with Ocon finishing seventh, and of the two Aston Martins, sixth and eighth with Stroll and Vettel.
The two Mercedes were positioned further back, with Russell ninth and Lewis Hamilton only 12th. However, it cannot be ruled out that both silver arrows did a different job than the other teams, paying less attention to speed on a single lap.
