Simone Biles, the 24-year-old gymnast who initially decided to retire from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after an emotional and psychological breakdown, back on the platform. The US champion appears in fact in the list of the eight finalists to the beam scheduled today at the Ariake Gymnastics Arena at 5:50 pm. “We are really happy to announce that there will be two of our athletes in the final of the beam – the note from the US committee -: Sunie Lee and Simone Biles. We can’t wait to admire you! ”.
Simone Biles had retired from all Olympic competitions for focus on his mental well-being. The American athlete admitted: “I have to focus on my mental state and not jeopardize my health and well-being”. “I no longer have faith in myself as before – said the 24-year-old four-time gold medalist at Rio 2016 and the first gymnast in history to have won five world titles in the individual competition – I don’t know if it’s a question of age. I’m a bit more nervous now when I get on the platform ”. Biles added: “I feel like I’m not enjoying myself as much as before. I know these are the Games, I wanted to play them but in reality I am participating for others, more than for myself. It hurts me deep down that doing what I love has been taken away from me. As soon as I step onto the platform it’s just me and my head… and there I am demons I have to deal with“.
