At 91, Silvio Santos would have authorized representatives to sell the Brazilian Television System (SBT), but would have found it difficult to find interested parties. The owner of the station would have asked for R$ 1 billion, according to the website Notícias da TV.
The problem with the sale of the television channel would be to justify the requested amount without the iconic presenter and without the advertisements of Grupo Silvio Santos companies.

“SBT is Silvio Santos. Silvio wants R$ 1 billion to sell the TV. But how much is SBT worth without Silvio and the group companies that advertise on the channel? The business model was set up to sell Silvio’s products,” a source with access to the proposal would have told the site.
The Brazilian Constitution limits foreign ownership to media groups in Brazil to 30%, which would also be an obstacle to the acquisition of the channel.
SBT was founded in 1981 and has not yet officially commented on the decision to sell the station.
