FRANKFURT (Reuters) – Siemens Energy and conglomerate Andrade Gutierrez have won a €1 billion (US$1.1 billion) contract to build a 1.7-gigawatt combined-cycle power plant in Brazil, the German group announced on Tuesday -fair.
The contract was won by Gas Natural Acu (GNA), a joint venture of Siemens Energy, BP, Prumo Logística and the Chinese State Power Investment Corp, and is the follow-up order for a first plant, GNA I, which came into operation in mid-year.
Siemens Energy, which was spun off from Siemens AG last year, has not disclosed the contract value for the GNA II, which will go into operation in 2023.
A person with knowledge of the matter said that the group’s quota is around 750 million euros, which includes a steam turbine, four electrical generators and three steam generators with heat recovery.
Siemens Energy will also provide long-term operation and maintenance of the plant, he said.
With 3 gigawatts of combined installed capacity, the two plants are the largest super-cooled liquefied natural gas (LNG) power project in Latin America, producing enough power for up to 14 million homes.
“This project is strategic, not only because of its grandeur, but also because of its geographic location, close to the two main gas pipeline systems in Brazil, in the Northeast and Southeast of the country,” said Siemens Energy board member Jochen Eickholt.
“And don’t forget: our gas turbines for GNA II are ready to burn hydrogen in the future.”
