Plexiglas at the cash desks, hydroalcoholic gel available: businesses are almost ready for their reopening, respecting the new health protocol linked to the Covid-19 epidemic. Its main measure: limit the number of customers in stores. Before containment, a gauge of four square meters per customer already existed, but it will be doubled for all businesses, regardless of their size.
This maximum number of clients does not satisfy all professionals. “If we can have a gauge of one person per six square meters, that would be more reasonable and acceptable compared to the end of the year holidays, which is the busiest period.“, estimates Anne-Laure Vial, a bookseller. The 8 square meter gauge is also difficult to apply in smaller businesses. “For us it’s really a disaster“, deplores Vanessa Renard. This hairdresser works in a 50 square meter establishment, which will therefore only be able to accommodate six clients at a time.
