A shooting near the Pentagon, headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, has left a police officer dead and several people injured, official sources reported. Details of what happened are unknown, but the FBI has launched an investigation.
The incident occurred in Washington DC, the capital of the United States, on August 3 at around 10:37 a.m. local time. The shooting took place at one of the main access points to the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, which serves as an entrance for the personnel of the compound and is located in an access area to the subway and is a stop for several bus lines .
Initially, through a press conference, the head of the Pentagon’s Protection Force Agency, Woodrow Kusse, said that “a Pentagon official was attacked on the Metrobús platform, shots were exchanged and there were several victims,” without giving more details on whether there were deaths or injuries in the incident.
However, Democratic US Senator Mark Warner later stated that a police officer protecting the Pentagon had been killed, while the agency that guards the headquarters confirmed that there were multiple injuries during the exchange of gunfire near the compound.
I’m incredibly saddened to learn about the passing of a Pentagon police officer, who was killed earlier this morning in a senseless act of violence outside the Pentagon. My heart goes out to the officer’s family and friends, as well as the entire Pentagon Police force.

“I am extremely saddened to learn of the death of a Pentagon police officer, who was killed this morning in a senseless act of violence outside the Pentagon. My heart goes out to the officer’s family and friends, as well as to the entire Pentagon police force, “Warner wrote on his Twitter account.
Also through the same social network, the Arlington Fire Department, where the military complex is located, on the outskirts of Washington, said that it had gone to the scene and found “several patients” in “an active incident of violence”.
The Pentagon was closed for more than an hour after the shooting
After what happened, the Pentagon closed its doors for at least an hour and a half, forcing its workers to remain inside until security teams inspected the entire area.
Later, the Pentagon security agency reported on its Twitter account that accesses to the place had been reopened, noting that some points such as access to the subway will remain closed for security.
“The scene of the incident is safe. It is still an active crime scene though. We request that everyone stay away from the subway entrance and the bus platform area, ”said the entity.
According to information from the AFP news agency, it is speculated that a suspect died at the scene after exchanges of gunfire with the police.
For his part, the head of the headquarters security agency, Kusse, maintained his secrecy about this information and said that an investigation was underway to determine the facts. The federal intelligence and investigation agency, better known by its acronym as the FBI, is also collaborating with the investigation.
