At least four people have died and 18 others were injured after a shooting on Saturday night in the town of Birmingham (Alabama, USA), whose authorities are trying to locate the perpetrators and find the motive for the crime.

“No one is in custody. We believe that multiple shooters fired at a group of people. Our officers are working to confirm whether they approached the victims on foot or in a vehicle, and that’s why we need the public’s help,” Truman Fitzgerald, a member of the Birmingham Police Department, said at a press conference afterwards.
Officers found the bodies of two men and a woman at the scene and a third man later died in hospital from gunshot wounds, police said in the shooting in the Five Points South area, known in the city for its nightlife.
In addition, there are at least four people seriously injured and whose lives are in danger at this time, according to the authorities.
The local police department believes the shooting was “not random and stemmed from an isolated incident in which multiple victims were caught in the crossfire,” but they are still trying to determine the motive and specific targets of the shooters, who were outside. Photos and videos posted on social media after the shooting showed at least two apparently wounded individuals on the ground outside, as well as the frantic screams of some people waiting for medics.
“Rest assured, we are going to do everything we can to make sure that we uncover, identify and hunt down whoever was responsible for taking advantage of our people,” Fitzgerald said in an attempt to reassure the public after the shooting, the second in the city of 250,000 this year.
He also urged businesses with security cameras in the area to check their footage and provide any relevant content to investigators. There have been more than 400 mass shootings in the United States so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which defines a mass shooting as an incident in which four or more people are injured or killed.
