With a plan to promote clean energy, with private participation, and the commitment to consume less gasoline and promote electromobility, President Claudia Sheinbaum marked a contrast in the paradigm of Q4 energy policy at the start of her Government.
He also highlighted the promotion of investments and offered security in Mexico.
“The autonomy of the Bank of Mexico will be maintained, a responsible fiscal policy, a reasonable proportion between debt and Gross Domestic Product, we will promote public investment and private investment. I say this very clearly. Rest assured that the investments of national shareholders and foreigners will be safe in our country,” he said at his inauguration in Congress. The President took protest on October 1 at 11:33 a.m. at the Legislative Palace of San Lázaro, where she paid tribute to the outgoing President, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
In his speech he vindicated the judicial reform, promoted by AMLO and recently enacted, which he described as democratic.
“Whoever says that this is authoritarianism is lying,” he said in the presence of Minister Norma Piña, president of the Court, sitting on his right side. In a speech in the Zócalo, he announced the production of a popularly accessible electric car, called “Olinia”, which will be produced with the joint participation of businessmen, universities and the Government. “We are going to promote renewable energies. The objective is that in 2030 they have a 45 percent participation. We are going to promote a photovoltaic panel program (in northern cities) so that having solar energy panels in their homes helps the environment and reduce your payment rate,” he said. After receiving a “clean” and an indigenous baton, Sheinbaum listed his 100 government commitments, which highlighted several measures aimed at the production and consumption of renewable energy. The President promised the development of railway, road and port infrastructure, the integration of a National Council that coordinates a relocation or nearshoring policy, and the construction of 100 industrial parks as the axis of that strategy. “We welcome private investment and the relocation of companies, with innovation, good salaries, environmental protection and national content,” he said when announcing his commitment 89. The National Relocation Council, he reported, will be formed with business chambers and government representatives. Although he said that the “fundamental” objective of his energy policy will continue to be strengthening Pemex and CFE, he assured that oil production will not exceed 1.8 million barrels per day, as it will be oriented toward domestic consumption and not export. “For environmental reasons and in addition to energy savings, we are going to promote standards so that the vehicles sold in Mexico are efficient and do not consume as much gasoline and diesel and promote electromobility,” he explained. In electrical matters, he reiterated, the CFE will maintain the stewardship of generation and distribution, with at least 54 percent government participation and 46 percent private generation. “This is how it exists now, this is how President Andrés Manuel López Obrador left it and this is how it will continue because energy sovereignty is essential,” he added. Before thousands of supporters who filled the Plaza de la Constitución, and who waited hours to hear the speech, the Morenista also reiterated her promise to expand passenger trains. He specified that his objective is to enable 3 thousand more kilometers, with routes such as Buenavista-AIFA-Pachuca-Tizayuca, CDMX-Querétaro, Querétaro-SLP-Saltillo-Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo, Querétaro-Guadalajara-Nogales and México-Puebla-Veracruz, among others. Another Sheinbaum commitment – number 60 – was the gradual implementation of the 40-hour work week, whose proposal was stuck in Congress. “I am sure that we are going to achieve it, in agreement with the employers we will gradually reach the 40-hour week during the six-year period,” she said about the proposal to reduce from 48 to 40 hours a week.
