Veracruz, Mexico.- President Claudia Sheinbaum defended in Veracruz the recent reform of the Judiciary, about which just yesterday the Court decided to open a controversy to determine if it has the power to analyze it and, if appropriate, reverse or annul it.
Hours after calling the Court a “watered blow” with this decision of eight ministers in favor against three against, Sheinbaum moved from Mexico City to the port of Veracruz to commemorate the 203 years of the creation of the Navy Mexican Navy and, in turn, the Bicentennial of the Constitution of 1824, the first of its kind in the Country.
It was precisely when mentioning that part of history, added to the Constitution that followed, that of 1857 with Benito Juárez, that Sheinbaum decided to defend again the constitutional modification of last September, with a majority of Morena and allies, with which it is foreseen in 2025 elect ministers, judges and magistrates by popular vote. “This Constitution establishes a civil state and, among others, the constitutional article that says: national sovereignty resides essentially and originally in the people. All public power emanates from the people and is instituted for the benefit of the people. The people have at all times the right of alter or modify the form of its Government, this article is sustained to date and it is fundamental that it recognizes that our democracy lies in the power of the people by the people and for the people,” he expressed from the Macroplaza del Malecón.
“This article is extremely relevant and gives us democratic guarantees, it is what allows us to reform the Constitution so that judges, magistrates and ministers of the Judiciary are elected,” he added on the esplanade, with the lighthouse of the former President Venustiano Carranza behind her.
Escorted by the heads of the Navy and the Secretary of National Defense, Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles and Ricardo Trevilla, respectively, Sheinbaum Pardo, its Commander, said that these Armed Forces are “civilist.” “Mexico has a fruitful history that shapes us and gives us strength to move forward. Today, as we remember the valuable heritage of the Constitution of 1824, we renew our commitment as a people, as a Government, together with its Armed Forces, civilist, loyal Armed Forces , disciplined people who not only represent the people of Mexico, but who offer their lives for the people and the nation.” After his speech, elements of the Navy, who previously carried out a rescue drill in the waters in front of the San Juan de Ulúa Fort, participated in a parade with vehicles and different flags, as well as boats transported in motor vehicles.
