Yesterday, UNESCO headquarters in Paris witnessed a ceremony honoring the 18th Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture, organized by the Sharjah Department of Culture in cooperation with the International Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (UNESCO), for the winners Dunya Mikhail (Iraq) and Helen Al Janabi (Sweden).
The ceremony was attended by Sheikh Salem Khalid Abdullah Al Qasimi, Permanent Representative of the UAE to UNESCO, and Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qasir, Director of Cultural Affairs at the Department of Culture in Sharjah, in addition to dignitaries, writers, intellectuals and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the United Nations.
In his speech, Ernesto Otto Ramirez, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture, expressed his thanks to His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, for his cultural and humanitarian renaissance at the local, regional and global levels. He said that the UNESCO-Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture honored an Iraqi writer, translator, journalist, and theater director from Sweden.
In his speech, Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Owais, Head of the Department of Culture in Sharjah, said: “The UAE is keen on cooperating with the countries of the world and being present in international forums. Active attendance at international book fairs.
For his part, Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qasimi said that the award, by honoring thirty-six cultural figures from different countries of the world, confirms its importance and success in carrying out its mission to achieve the vision of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, which aims to support Arab culture and enhance its position.
