“Sharjah Children’s Reading Center”… Creating unique works using the “collage” technique

The “Children’s Books” platform hosted a workshop entitled “Illustrations Using the Collage Technique,” ​​in which children learned about how to prepare illustrations using colored papers and materials using the “collage” technique, within the days of the 15th session of the “Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival,” which is held until May 12. Taking place at Expo Center Sharjah under the slogan “Be the hero of your story”.
The workshop began with a visual presentation on the art of “collage,” during which the Greek artist Daniela Stamtiadi, who won third place in the “Sharjah Children’s Book Illustrations Exhibition 2024” awards, explained to the children how to prepare a collage, as the first step begins by drawing a specific shape of a tree, birds, or house on a white sheet of paper. Then place a transparent sheet of paper over the illustration and secure it with adhesive to ensure that the sheet does not move or change the shape’s measurements. Then, copy the illustration onto the transparent paper.

The next step includes removing the sticker and tracing paper, attaching it to ready-made drawings, or drawings that the children draw themselves with various patterns and colors, and cutting the ready-made drawings in the same shape drawn on the tracing paper. In the final step, the shapes are glued onto the white paper that the children used in the first step, to obtain a unique artwork for an illustration using the collage technique.
The 15th session of the “Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival” organizes more than 1,500 cultural, artistic and entertainment events, including workshops, sessions and various performances, presented by more than 265 guests from more than 25 countries, with the aim of developing children’s talents, honing their skills and enhancing their artistic and creative abilities.
