The Sharjah Book Authority participates in the activities of the Riyadh International Book Fair 2024, which is organized by the Literature, Publishing and Translation Authority under the slogan “Riyadh Reads” at King Saud University and continues until October 5.
Fadel Hussein Ahmed, Deputy Director of the Sharjah International Book Fair, supervising the Sharjah Book Authority’s pavilion at the Riyadh International Book Fair, explained that the participation of the Sharjah Book Authority in the Riyadh Fair comes to convey a picture, even if simplified, of the cultural movement in the Emirates in general and in the Emirate of Sharjah in particular, and to meet the Saudi public and get to know each other. For his literary and intellectual publications, he also met with Saudi publishers and some Saudi institutions and invited them to participate in the Sharjah International Book Fair.
He added that the participation aims to shed light on the Authority’s programs provided to publishers in general, including the Translation Grant, which provides $4,000 for a book of the year and $1,500 for a children’s book, in non-refundable support, as the initiative seeks to transfer Arab culture to speakers of foreign languages, in addition to introducing the Tarjuman Grant, which offers its highest prize of 750,000. One dollar for the best book serving Arab and Islamic culture translated into foreign languages.
He pointed out that the Sharjah Authority’s pavilion works to familiarize the participants in the Riyadh International Book Fair with the Authority’s programs and facilitates their participation in the Sharjah Book Fair and addresses the problems they faced in previous sessions, in addition to displaying various publications, including those related to children and young people, books by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, historical books, and publications of the Department.
